KOAC Artist in Residence

ANNA SEMENOFF

MARCH 1 – APRIL 30, 2025

Anna is joining KOAC for a two-month-long studio residency in March and April of 2025. As many of you know, our Artist in Residence (AiR) program was inspired by Katie Ohe, co-founder of KOAC with her late husband Harry Kiyooka. The AiR program was officially launched in 2020, to support artists in their personal artistic growth and to offer them a space where they can be surrounded by the inspirational works of their peers in the beautiful natural setting of our twenty-acre outdoor sculpture park.

During this residency, Anna Semenoff will have access to a dedicated park studio space and the inspiration of all the sculptures at the park to develop new work. Anna has shared that she plans to use her time to sculpturally investigate the structural and architectural geometry of a load bearing arch, with resin and wax materials.

Anna Semenoff is a sculptor based in Calgary, AB. located on Treaty 7 Territory. She completed her BFA in sculpture from the Alberta University of the Arts (2019), and her MFA in fine art from the University of Guelph (2024). She is influenced by the study of structures and systems of perception, and the ways they influence our understanding of our built environment, and how we occupy it. She is particularly interested in technological and material evolutions, and the metaphorical influence these hold on how we see, understand, and act in the world. She often considers the question: Is art technology?
