KOAC Artist in Residence

Bogdan Cheța

JULY 1 – JULY 31, 2025

Wavering without an end in sight, like an internal monologue that cruises the interiority of its own scenes, Bogdan Cheța’s (he/they, b.1983 Ploiești, România) research contemplates possible points of tension between images and experience. Responding to the site-specificity of their contexts, his installations extend physically — as immersive atmospheres where fictional scenes from queer historical settings become entangled with themes and presences from works that have initially circulated in the published form. Built like episodic continuations from each project, these lived-in paratextual assemblages begin to morph into one another— from project to project, and across time, to give form to an imaginary shelter — a spatial construction that can be picked up, reshuffled, and then spaced each time as a new world. Cheța holds an MFA from the Alberta University of the Arts, while their projects have shown in both local and international contexts, in exhibition settings, festivals and in printed or immersive, online publications.

From my previous walks in the KOAC sculpture park, I always felt that I was somehow included inside a drifting assemblage of historical art narratives where human and non-human actors commingled together to fashion a distinct experience of thought and quiet moments of inner self reflection that queered my perception of time.” – Bogdan Cheța

A special small-group walking-poetry session guided by the artist will be held on Tuesday, July 29th.
Spots are limited, so please read more about the event and register at this link.
