The work of Ken Webb reflects on the desensitizing of photographic images, using a process of filtering or interference. Webb initially assembles a variety of photographic images in digital files, before reinterpreting them into paintings. Finished works incorporate the printed photographic images, graphic elements, and handmade painted objects.
Webb graduated from ACAD with Honours (1976), and did post-graduate studies at the Royal College of Art in London, England (1977-78). He has taught at the University of Calgary, and is currently a permanent faculty member at ACAD. In 2002, Kenneth Webb received the ACAD Award of Excellence.
Webb has shown with John Ramsay Contemporary Art (Vancouver); Paul Kuhn Gallery (Calgary); Mira Goddard (Toronto); and in numerous international exhibitions. Selected solo exhibitions include: Lost Identity: Stories Untold, Herringer Kiss Gallery (2012); Cool Climate, Herringer Kiss Gallery (2007); white noise, Herringer Kiss Gallery (2005); New Work, John Ramsey Contemporary Art (Vancouver, 2000); Architecture’s Influence on Nature, Paul Kuhn Fine Art (1998). Selected group shows include: Art for Food, Herringer Kiss Gallery (2009); HK Affordable Art Show, Herringer Kiss Gallery (2005-09); ACAD Faculty Exhibition (Brisbane, Australia, 2002); 1st International Miniature Print Exhibition (Vancouver, 2000); 16th National Biennial Exhibition, Los Angeles Printmaking Society (2000). Webb’s work has been published in Hidden Values, Contemporary Canadian Art in Corporate Collections by Robert Swain; Printmaking in Alberta: 1945 – 1985 by Bente Roed Cochran; Sitelines, Printmaking and Image Culture by Walter Jule; and most recently, in An Alberta Chronicle, Adventures in Recent and Contemporary Art by Mary-Beth Laviolette.
