KOAC Artist in Residence

Pamela vickerson

AUGUST 1 – AUGUST 31, 2025

Pamela Vickerson joined KOAC for a one-month-long studio residency in August of 2025.

Over the month of August 2025, Pamela Vickerson spent an artist residency at the Kiyooka Ohe Arts Centre studying and applying the “elements of play” within her creative practice. During her BFA studies in 2018, the loss of her young adult son after his two-decade-long journey with cancer left her looking for a gentle way to process the experience. This brought Pamela to discover a body of research on adult playfulness and its many benefits. Continuing to study and apply these elements of play to her creative practice; through collecting, community conversations, and painted portraits (both conventional and unconventional) Pamela will share her ongoing story of playing through grief (Eberle).

Pamela Vickerson is a multidisciplinary artist who grew up exploring Alberta, moving from the prairies, to the mountains, and then to the city as a teen. With a background in fashion and graphic design, she worked as an editorial and commercial illustrator for a number of years. A never-ending appetite for learning compels her into creative community as both an instructor and a perpetual student. Vickerson attended the Alberta University of the Arts for more than two decades, both informally and formally, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Distinction (Drawing) in 2024. Her nomadic and playful early years along with later experiences of loss, profoundly impact the vision and direction of her research and arts practice.
