Wil Murray explores the idea of the journey as transformative, using painting, photography, and collage to investigate the effect of time and motion upon substance. Objects transmute beyond their original purpose, becoming forms in space: painted,

photographed, repainted, or collaged with cutouts or fabric swatches. For example, Murray’s process might involve repainting found images of landscapes or interiors, collaging them with fabric, photographing them in black and white, then recolouring single or multiple exposures with oil paint. Born in Calgary, Murray studied painting at ACAD; he now lives and works between Okotoks and Berlin, Germany. His work was selected for the Alberta Biennale (2015) and featured in the Carte Blanche Vol. 2 exhibition for top national painters at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art (2008). Murray

also received an Honorable Mention in the prestigious RBC Canadian Painting Competition. He has participated in Dialogues Art Projects at the London Art Fair (2015); Papier Art Fair, P|M Gallery (2013); ArtMRKT Fair (2013); Art Toronto (2015, 2013); and the Manchester Contemporary, VITRINE (2013). Murray’s work will be featured in the upcoming Alberta Biennale 2017.
