ABOUT ALEX KWONG

Alex’s residency at KOAC was focused on deepening his technical practice in oil, gouache, watercolor, and charcoal while cultivating a contemplative relationship with the surrounding landscape. Through this practice, he translated moments of meditation and observation in the park into expressive studio works.

Alex Kwong is a Calgary-based visual artist recognized for his large-scale murals that celebrate the stories and spirit of the communities they represent. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Art History from the University of Victoria in 2011, a foundation that informs his narrative-driven and contextually grounded approach to public art. Through meaningful collaboration with local residents, Kwong creates murals that reflect the character, identity, and lived experiences of the people and places that inspire them. His works can be found across Canada, transforming public spaces into vibrant landmarks that foster pride, connection, and belonging.
