Anna Semenoff

Over the months of March and April 2025, Anna Semenoff used the KOAC studio to explore sculptural interpretations of architectural arches. Her work considers the symbolic and structural roles of arches as thresholds, as connectors, and as conduits for meaning.

Arches, as architectural elements, are historically seen in windows, doors, tunnels, bridges—entrances and exits. They both connect and distinguish space, allowing one to cross over or pass through. Structurally, the arch seems to follow both logic and intuition, and my work aims to consider this overlap.”

– Anna Semenoff

Anna Semenoff reflects on how the lightness and clarity of modern architecture, often conveyed through glass, is structurally supported by hidden forces like reinforced concrete. This duality prompts broader questions. She writes, "In my work, I consider ways in which technological evolutions enhance, and diminish our relationship with the world. Is it possible that the appearance of reality no longer lines up with an intuitive understanding of it? With a general and cultural assumption that anything is technologically possible, where does meaning come from?"
