Shane Arsenault has a deep respect for the origins of photography. His work spans multiple mediums and techniques in the field: he makes use of everything from the historic Wet Plate Collodion process to today’s progressive and punctual digital compositing. Arsenault capitalizes on his vast technical knowledge to execute his unique conceptual ideas.

In his series Plane Space, Arsenault focuses on the monotony of architectural facades while still providing recognition to the intimate details they reflect. His photographs provoke an exploration of how we as viewers and inhabitants interact with these urban facades, and how their forms actually influence the way we live. Arsenault graduated from ACAD in 2015 with a Bachelor of Design degree, majoring in Photography. He was the recipient of the 2015 Rosalee Heibert

Memorial Endowment, and the ACAD Student Excellence Award the same year. Arsenault also won the Lamphouse Endowment for the Arts Fund’s Emerging Artist Bursary (2011), and the Canmore Rotary Club Art Competition (2010). In 2015, Arsenault published Facades, a book of his fine art architectural photographs. He is a darkroom instructor at Through the Lens (2014, annually), and is the founder, curator, and treasurer of NOMAD Gallery (2013-present). Arsenault has exhibited extensively in and around Calgary since 2008. Solo exhibitions include: Plane Space, HK INCUBATOR, Herringer Kiss Gallery (2016); Facades, Marion Nicoll Gallery Main Space (2014); Face to Face, NOMAD Gallery (2014). Selected group exhibitions include: Embodiment, Loft 112, PAG (2015); Mentors, Artpoint “Red Gallery” (2015); Blindspot, ACAD Main Hall (2015); RAW: Visionary, Standard (2015); Seities: “Theme:Streets”, Shelf Life Books (2014); NOMAD Founder Show, NOMAD Gallery (2013); Through the Lens, A Retrospective, Whyte Museum, Banff (2013); Through the Lens, Whyte Museum
