Chris Flodberg is committed to the traditions of descriptive painting while depicting the present, mainly in terms of landscapes, figures, and the often overlooked, intimate spaces around him. Although known for his large-scale, realistic oil paintings, Flodberg also juxtaposes people, places and objects from a vast array of photographs and images to reflect a deeper narrative.

Born and raised in Calgary, Flodberg completed a BFA at ACAD and an MFA at the University of Alberta. He taught painting and drawing at both ACAD and U of A, and now lives, paints and exhibits fulltime in Calgary.

Recent solo exhibitions include: Matters of Denial at The Art Gallery of Calgary (2008); Here and Nowhere at Masters Gallery (2005); and Forbidden Subjects at the University of Calgary (2004). Group shows include: Portrait of the Artist, Glenbow Museum (2008-09); Alberta Biennial of Contemporary Art at the Art Gallery of Alberta and Walter Phillips Gallery (2007-08); and Three Decades of Realist Painting, University of Calgary (2006). Flodberg’s work has been collected by: Alberta Foundation for the Arts; Glenbow Museum; Alberta Children’s Hospital; Canadian Pacific Railway; Transalta Utilities; the Nickle Arts Museum; and the Leighton Foundation.
