Ron Moppett’s practice is multidisciplinary, slipping in and out of painting into sculpture, drawing, printmaking andinstallation art. He offers a diverse view of pop culture and glimpses into the “dailiness” of life. A brilliant colourist, Moppett stencils and distills shapes creating complex “picture puzzles” that hold multiple layers of meaning.

His career includes numerous honours, exhibitions, and awards, including the prestigious Gershon Iskowitz Prize (1997). Exhibitions of note include: a major survey at Glenbow Museum (1990); RON MOPPETT: SCULPTUR(AL) at The Nickle Galleries (2015); an exhibition with his son Damian Moppett at the Art Gallery of Alberta (2016). Moppett’s work can be found in many collections including the National Gallery of Canada, the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, and Glenbow Museum.

In 2013, Moppett curated Made in Calgary: The 1970s, an important survey exhibition of Calgary’s artistic community. In 2012 Moppett unveiled THESAMEWAYBETTER/READER, a monumental mosaic tile wall work measuring 110 feet long by 13 feet high in Calgary’s East Village.
